Abstract art, for me, is a dialogue between my hand, the brush, and the canvas. It is an inner conversation. As I am painting, I ask the canvas what it wants. I was trained to paint from models, landscapes and still life. Now inspiration pours out from the canvas. I just want a blank canvas and no thought. I want each painting to be a spontaneous creation.
AERIAL APPROACH
My artistic vision is from an aerial approach – a bird’s eye view from above. Imagine fertile fields or landscapes of the southwestern desert, coming into view from an airplane in patchwork patterns. This is the view from my inner canvas. The natural world of wind, water, mountains, and trees intrigue me, from the tiniest plant or insect to the mighty canyons and vast seas. Exploring textures, designs and rhythms, I can select, interpret, and rearrange them to suit my individual vision.
ELEMENTAL PALETTE
Water and Earth colors predominate my color palette. Pale sea-greens to deep ocean blue shades bring the flow of the element of water. From deep rich brown of fertile soil to pale desert sands the element of earth joins the kaleidoscope of reds, yellows, and purples.
